The Orange Box is out!

Yeah I know, not exactly news, it came out yesterday and has been available for preorder on Steam for the last 3 weeks...nevertheless it's finally out! This awesome package includes Half-Life 2 and all it's expansions, the puzzle game Portal, and the long awaited Team Fortress 2. Oh, and for some reason Peggle Extreme.

Hopefully anyone who's greatly anticipated TF2 preordered and has been playing the beta for a while now, otherwise, well...now you know. ;)

Actually...

Yeah, I recommend reading through Penny Arcade as well (link below). They're both hilarious in their own ways and definitely worth a look if you're a gamer.

Well actually any self-respecting gamer would have at least heard of Penny Arcade, but that's beside the point. ;)

A cool webcomic

Here’s another random musing I decided to insert…I don’t know how many people have heard of it, but I thought I’d mention this comic, Ctrl+Alt+Delete. It’s mainly satire of video game culture a la Penny Arcade, but it’s pretty funny in general. There are some arching plotlines though so if anyone likes it, I suggest you sit down for an afternoon (or two) and read through the entire archives. There’s some comedic gold in there.

New PS3 model

Sony has recently unveiled a new PlayStation 3 model in Japan.

Looks very cool at first glance. Color's nice, 40 GB hard drive...also the 342$ price tag is a major incentive for me, I'm one of those people who would never buy the original PS3 because of it's exorbitant price tag. They're also selling a 60 GB model in Japan, although I can't really see when you'd ever need that much space on a console system.

They're releasing this new model in Europe later on...for roughly 200$ more. Seems like typical regional bias if you ask me. Ah well. Too bad they're not releasing it in North America at all. Some of us penny pinchers could do with the price cuts.

The only real downside I see is that there's no PS2 backwards compatibility. Not a problem for someone like myself, but if you're a PS2 gamer upgrading to the new console, it's only fair that you're able to play games you've accumulated over the years on your new system. That was Sony's original stance, anyway.

Sounds like this new PS3 is a rather mixed blessing.

Mobile Mozilla Browser?

With the iPhone getting mixed reception and people ending up pretty unhappy based on its EDGE internet service and browser it seems other companies are stepping up to the plate. Mozilla recently announced that they're developing Mozilla2, kind of like a new Firefox designed specifically with mobile platforms in mind. It's good that Mozilla is giving mobile device users some love as the current pickings are slim. Hopefully, this new browser coupled with the 3G network capabilities promised for later models, surfing the web on the iPhone might finally become viable.

School shooting in Cleveland

Well this is just terrible. It's been on the news quite a bit, but I figure it's worth mentioning here...

Article link

So this 14 year old kid ended up shooting 2 students and 2 teachers today, supposedly based on his anger at being suspended back on Monday. That's a pretty crazy way of taking out your anger if you ask me, but anyway...

Luckily none of the victims were seriously injured, with the exception of the killer who ended up shooting himself. People say he was a disturbed gothic type who frequently talked about getting revenge on people so that might explain his appalling actions. When you think about recent shootings like this and Virginia Tech, and older ones like Columbine and École Polytechnique in Montreal, it becomes apparent that these shootings are just way too frequent but in a twisted way I've almost come to expect them by now. My heart goes out to all the families of these victims, and the victims of school shootings of yore.

More fun with the Hoff

So I don't know if anyone has heard about this, but apparently David Hasselhoff was hospitalized on Tuesday due to a "relapse". Not really all that surprising if you think about his drunken burger-eating antics in that video which appeared on the internet a couple months ago. Still, I sympathize with the guy, it's not easy to recover from being an alcoholic. The occasional slip up should just be expected.

He's teamed up with Ryan Seacrest to develop a comedy called "Tales of the Hoff" which is loosely based on his own personal life, so I guess he's still able to have some jokes at his own expense.
